The New Industrial Revolution

Substance vs. Style
-substance - essence, why does something exist? -style - outward expression of substance, elevates substance Line qualities that mimic nature - hand sketched forms tend to have a thick to thin line or vice versa (pen pressure) - think of typefaces that compliment the thick to thin |

- the term system may refer to the set of rules that guide the creation of the whole
- successful systems strike a balance between unity and diversity sunistemi mean to unite or put together -colors can be a signifying agent -can the system adapt for changes and still work? does it allow for divergence or growth that can be included in the system? -kinetic system - different parts when put together, make sense -what are the rules and what are the variables of the system? |

Projected Presentation
- full bleed images, nicely cropped - think about the screen and environment you will be in - on most presentation screens, the images will be horizontal - put as little type as possibly on the screen - everything that is on the screen in something the people will read - what will the biggest and smallest the mark be? - can the design function in black and white? |

Metaphor that exists between the being and their environment - different cultures can create different realities
- a mountain to one person can be the embodiment of a spirit god while to another it is something to mine. It's just a pile of rocks -understanding and respect of different perspectives Modern industrial world is so young - do not have all the answers of how to adapt to things - get out of the perspective of "fixing things" - this is the world we were born into. How can we live together peacefully and in cooperation? Each culture and its peoples at peace in the global community and in their own My design skills are not enough to implement change, but they can influence/motivate the people who have the resources and drive to do so supporting each other in our efforts. What can you bring to the table? |

No amount of anxiety makes a difference to anything that's going to happen - don't waste all your energies in self-defense It all falls apart, therefore don't become attached There's only an external now. Can't make it want to do some good - won't serve you Everything is in decay. You don' t have to let go because there is nothing to hold on to. Power does not come to you because you take it. Power comes to you when you give up control. Organic power - as separate from political power When you try to impress someone, you usually don't - play at it rather than work at it |

The world loses it's magic once it is explored and learned. A child, for example, experiencing light for the first time 'see light, is attracted by it, wants to grasp it, burns its finger in the process, and thus learns fear and respect for the flame' learns light has a friendly and unfriendly side - banishes darkness, prolongs the day, cooks, warms Intense interest in this new object vanishes and lights' attribute of delighting the eye is me with indifference |

No common-sense solution - reclamation of culture - right to envision own future - exploring the options - a system of feedback "Not knowing but keep going" - avoid the dangers of not knowing - problem solving through perspective changing and awareness - the present looks different to everyone - no one person is more 'modern' than another, albeit in their own terms - not trying to simplify or categorize cultures and communities, but engage them with one another as well as remaining resilient in their own right - it seems comforting to simplify and categorize - it becomes easier to define things and make something tangible to hold on to or evaluate - can better understand and process things this way -the world's people are so complex that each community and their voice must be heard in their own way -localization of development - participant-focused |
